Seafood Scotland’s underpinning principle is to promote Scottish seafood on a quality basis, and we have taken the initiative to establish formalised quality standards of practice from point of capture, throughout the supply chain.  This not only assures a reliable and consistent supply of responsibly caught quality seafood, but buyers can be assured of a fully traceable product origin.  Many Scottish vessels adhere to these standards, or Good Practice Guidelines, as a part of their commitment to the independently accredited Responsible Fishing Scheme http://rfs.seafish.org/ , which has been developed to raise standards in the catching sector, enabling those within the seafood supply chain to demonstrate their commitment to the responsible sourcing of seafood.

The Scottish industry has invested heavily in quality and infrastructure improvements in recent years, making use of the EU’s FIFG grant scheme to upgrade and build new factories and fish markets, install advanced freezing/chilling and handling facilities on board fishing vessels, and establish supply chain projects that link boats, processors, and retailers together.

Seafood Scotland can help with quality improvement and modernisation across the various sectors of the Scottish seafood industry. For more information, look in our on-line Library or contact our technical manager
