State of stocks PDF Print E-mail

The 2006 ICES Working Groups dealing with Nephrops used underwater TV survey data to investigate trends in the abundance of Nephrops, and estimate overall abundance in the stocks. The six main stocks of Scottish interest, three in the North Sea and three on the west coast showed mainly similar trends, with abundance increasing in more recent.

At the Fladen Ground (the largest Scottish fishery) abundance has fluctuated and is currently just below the long term average. Density in many creel areas has remained fairly stable but there has been some local concern in inshore areas of the Hebrides.
