State of stocks PDF Print E-mail

Assessments are carried out by ICES. Scotland participates in internationally coordinated research vessel surveys and contributes the most extensive biological data from market and commercial vessel observer sampling. The spawning stock biomass (SSB) is at or above precautionary levels (Bpa) in all three haddock stocks and the stocks are considered to have full reproductive capacity at the present time.

On the west coast, however, lower catches will be required in 2008 to keep the stock above Bpa . Fishing mortality is close to or below precautionary levels (Fpa). In common with other demersal fish taken in mixed fisheries, haddock are subject to ICES advice that seeks to safeguard stocks in the poorest condition.
