Seafood Scotland was established by the Scottish seafood industry in 1999 and is an independent trade organisation established “for the industry, by the industry”.
It is funded largely on a project-by-project basis by Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish), industry and through EU “Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance” (FIFG) funding (with additional state aid from the Scottish Executive).
This availability of funding limits resources and activity, but Seafood Scotland does its best to work hard with all funding agencies to ensure that within these constraints it can work towards delivering the best for industry.
Although a completely separate organisation from Seafish, Seafood Scotland subcontracts much of its quality work to Seafish staff, who are out in the field working on Seafood Scotland’s behalf.
