The Skates and Rays Producers Association (SRPA)

Seafish coordinated and assisted in the formation of the Skates and Rays Producers Association (SRPA), which was set up in response to concerns raised by conservation groups about the health and abundance of stocks of certain species.
All skates and rays landed in the UK are currently grouped together in landing statistics. This results in a scarcity of information for individual species within the skates and rays family, and the SRPA aims to address this.
To alleviate concerns from conservation groups and the public, the SRPA (with backing and help from Seafish) have begun to implement new measures to make sure that these specialist fish are regulated and monitored properly. This will involve building credible and accurate data which will be coordinated and monitored by Seafish. The success of this project will have a major influence on this important specialist part of the industry, and in turn will help it to move forward in a responsible and sustainable way so that skates and rays can continue to be enjoyed by the public.
