Seafood Scotland is looking for an Industry Engagement Specialist to support the activities of the organisation.


Seafood Scotland is a trade organisation set up by the Scottish seafood industry to market, promote and develop responsibly caught Scottish seafood in order to maximise the value of return to industry. The organisation works closely with all sectors of the Scottish seafood supply chain, from catching and processing, through to retail and foodservice, and encourages and facilitates those sectors to co-operate together.

Seafood Scotland offers an excellent range of services and support to the Scottish seafood sector, enhancing their growth and development; delivering key projects and working with key stakeholders across the wider food and drink industry.


Through the launch of Ambition 2030 the Scottish seafood sector will have to witness sizeable growth  to match the objectives set out within the document and it will be a key role of the Industry Engagement Specialist to lay the appropriate foundations to meet these objectives.

You would be responsible for engaging with the seafood industry in order to identify the barriers to growth across all the sub-sectors of the Scottish seafood industry and formulate an action plan to counteract these barriers by generating an environment for business growth.

An existing knowledge and awareness of the seafood sector / sub-sectors and their respective businesses will be essential to undertake this role effectively. Seafood Scotland is a member of the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership so awareness of this partnership activity will also be essential to this role.

Seafood Scotland consists of a small but busy team and as the Industry Engagement Specialist you will also support other Seafood Scotland activities including the delivery of current projects e.g. Connect Local and the wider marketing support functions.


  1. To engage with the Scottish seafood industry to gather a greater understanding of the barriers to growth and highlight the market opportunities available.
  2. Assist in the creation of a revised Scottish seafood action plan to align with current strategy documents such as Ambition 2030 and the Scottish Aquaculture Strategy.
  3. Deliver a targeted work plan that meets the needs of the industry in seeking new market and growth opportunities. 
  4. To work effectively within a team environment and assist in the delivery of key projects.
  5. To work effectively with the Seafood Scotland team and board members to deliver on agreed project outputs.
  6. To establish and develop relationships with appropriate partners (industry, Scotland Food and Drink, Scottish Development International, Scottish Enterprise and key industry stakeholders).
  7. Regularly update and maintain the Seafood Scotland industry database with appropriate relationship management information.


  •   A valid UK driving licence
  •   Excellent attention to detail and highly organised
  •   Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. You will be required to communicate at all levels including industry and partnership organisations
  •  Ability to handle a busy workload with tight turnaround requirements
  •  Take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment
  •  IT literate across Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  •  Strong interest in the Scottish Seafood sector and the wider Scottish food and drink industry
  •  Willing to work unsociable hours, travel and stay away from home as required


Salary: Competitive salary, depending on experience

Annual Leave entitlement: 27.5 days (plus 9 bank holidays)

Working hours: 37
