In 2012, the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead, established the Scottish Seafood Partnership (SSP). The aim of the Partnership was to add value to all seafood products from net to plate and to promote the sustainable profitability of the seafood sector.

These pages have been created as a direct action of the aims of the partnership, to better inform industry as to the routes to certification programmes relevant to the seafood section.

Certification and assurance schemes for Scottish seafood

These pages of our site are aimed at providing information to businesses on the numerous certification schemes in use within the food and seafood industry. These pages aim to provide information on some of the more widely used standards, what they deliver, who delivers them and how businesses can engage in them.

Within the seafood industry, there are many different schemes in operation. Some have been specifically developed for use in the seafood sector; others are used broadly across the food and drink industry.
