Fisheries Research Services (FRS) is an agency of the Scottish Government Marine Directorate (SGMD).

FRS provides expert advice on marine and freshwater fisheries, aquaculture, and the protection of the aquatic environment and its wildlife. This helps ensure that the policies and regulatory activities of the Government are supported with up-to-date scientific and technical information.

To view the full aims, objectives and activities of FRS, and gain a detailed insight into their work please visit: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/marine/science

One key area of work for FRS is its Fisheries Management Programme, which monitors and assesses the main fish and shellfish stocks of interest to Scotland. We have detailed the top ten commercially important species to the Scottish industry and FRS has provided a breakdown of the latest stock information for these species on this site.
