Common Language Group

Seafish coordinated the formation of a Common Language Group in 2006, whose members are stakeholders from across the entire UK seafood supply chain. They include fishermen's organisations, seafood processors and retailers, environmental groups, and policy makers. This group acts as a strategic forum for the sharing of information and addressing of key issues such as the provision of relevant supply chain information, catching methods, and the labeling of seafood as 'sustainable'.
The forum has the flexibility to form associated working groups to address key issues arising in the industry as and when they develop. One such associated group is the discard action group.
The CLG has already examined beam trawling, looking at the range of fisheries currently impacted by this fishing method, and the initiatives UK industry is taking to reduce environmental impacts. Further information can be obtained from Phil Macmullen, Head of Environmental Responsibility, Seafish.
