Mackerel Egg Survey
There are no translations available.
Mackerel is one of the most valuable species to the Scottish industry and the sustainability of its fishery is vital. An accurate assessment of the spawning stock biomass is essential to provide scientists with the necessary information to assess this sustainability. The international mackerel egg survey has been carried out by research vessels every 3 years for the past 30 years, and is an important part of this assessment.
Resources for the 2007 survey were originally cut to 85% of the geographical coverage of the 2004 survey, due to funding cuts. However, in collaboration between the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen's Association, Fisheries Research Services Aberdeen, SEERAD (FIFG funding) and Seafish through their Industry Project Fund, coverage was restored to that of previous survey levels.
