Reducing Carbon Footprints
Seafish is funding research to provide up-to date information on CO2 emissions, as the seafood industry becomes more aware of its impact on the environment.
An initial survey, nearing completion, looks at the level of CO2 emissions produced by industry and looks at a number of supply chains, from catch to processor, across a range of species. It will provide an overview of the supply chains for key species entering the UK and estimates of CO2 emissions associated with these.
A carbon footprint reduction project focussed on processing is also being carried out, and a fact sheet will soon be available detailing how CO2 emissions produced by processing can potentially be reduced.
