ently, our Industry Engagement Manager, Jeni Adamson, had the privilege of supporting Jamie Russo from the Redcloak Fish Bar in Stonehaven in hosting a Fish and Chip Education Day—an event tailored for fish and chip shop owners and industry representatives. Earlier this year, Jamie visited the Norwegian fishing industry as part of his success in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2024, and he aimed to replicate that enriching experience for his colleagues, this time showcasing the remarkable Scottish fishing industry.
The day commenced with a tour of the Peterhead Port Authority Fish Market, where they observed the morning operations and the array of fresh seafood available. This was followed by informative presentations from the National Federation of Fish Friers, Henry Colbeck, The Fish Works in Largs, and Seafood Scotland, during which Jeni provided an overview of Scotland’s seafood industry and emphasized the benefits of selecting Scottish fish for fish and chip establishments.
The next stop was a captivating tour of GT Seafoods Ltd, a premier whitefish processor in Peterhead, which is poised for exciting expansion in the near future.
The day concluded with a delightful late lunch at The Ashvale in Aberdeen, providing attendees an opportunity to reflect on the day’s insights over a lovely dish of fish and chips. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing interest in similar events in the future for both knowledge-sharing and networking.
